I need money… lots and lots of money… I want the pie in the sky! Do you remember that song? Well, I might be showing my age.
As teachers we DO need lots and lots of money to fulfill our dreams for our classroom and our students.
Did you know there are some sites out there where you can write a mini-grant for your classroom? There are lovely, generous people out there who do want to help! Some of these sites can require you to really write a lot and put quite a bit of time into writing your grant. Many of us don’t have time (we are pretty busy teaching, preparing and planning) or money!
I have found a great little site called:
Adopt A Classroom requires teacher registrants to fill out a small questionnaire and write a 50 word essay. After completion of this quick little exercise, a confirmation e-mail is sent. Then the registrant (that’d be you) responds to the email and the petition for funds is (VOILA!) posted.
Once you acquire the funds you need to fulfill your vision then you can shop through the site. The site is sponsored by some big time businesses such as OfficeMax. Copps, and Roundy’s. So when you shop you are undoubtly shopping with the partners.
**One final consideration… some public districts cap off how much money a teacher may accept as a donation so be sure that you are within your quota. I know that seems ridiculous when you are a huge donor yourself…but just be certain that you are within your limits.I recently wrote a mini-grant asking for funds to purchase laptop computers, a printer, and some audio mp3 players. Currently, I have none of those things in my classroom!
My vision is to ramp up technology and bring it into the classroom (not just isolated to a computer lab). I want to have students listen to recorded literature and then respond with computer based activities. In addition, I hope that my students will be able to use the laptops to compose essays and emergent writing activities.
If you have dream for your kid-a-loos or a wish that you would like to fulfill then be sure that you visit Adopt-A-Classroom this summer. Here’s the site address:www.adoptaclassroom.org/
